Strong first half sees a four star performance for Bass

After a slow warm up from the girls and a little pep talk, the girls finally got to play their first match in two weeks. The last time they played was out against our opponents where we prevailed 6-1.

Within the first ten minutes the game was tight and physical but it was certainly Bassett who began to grow into the game as they began to play some great little passing patterns. And it wasn't long before we managed to get our first of the half. Maya was able to pinch the ball off the midfielder in the middle of the park after their throw and her pass found Sienna who drove forward and put a lovely ball across the box for Daisy to tap in at the back stick.

Bassett continued to dominate and were awarded with their second as a Sienna corner was delivered near post and kept alive by Maya who poked the ball into an area that wasn't dealt with by the Amesbury defence and Ruby was able to poke home for her first of the season and Bassett's second of the morning.

Amesbury's trickiest player was their forward and she was able to make it tough for the Bassett back line and her first shot was saved by Chloe.

Despite a small laspe, the game continued to be dominated by Bassett as our third goal came shortly after. As a good ball is put in by Daisy from a corner it however evades everyone but Holly managed to keep the ball alive and pick out Sienna on the edge of the box to beats the player and strike into the bottom corner for three.

And it could have been even more as Elsie's long throw evaded everyone and found Daisy in the box, she turns and slots her pass just wide of the target just before half time.

Bassett continued to drive forward and delivery's from Sienna and Daisy just evade each other. Sienna also manages to pick out Poppy who initially controls and should shoot but takes too long and is tackled and Daisy's follow up is wide. But Bassett finish the half 3-0 up.

However it was a quiet half for Bassett who let the opponents come into the game as their number 15 proved what a quality player she was as she was involved in good little play and the Amesbury striker saw her shot just go wide of the target. However she was in again as she drove through and Holly just couldn't squeeze the ball out her path and her shot is smashed past Chloe for 3-1.

Elsie picks ball from un contested drop ball and was able to drive forward and she's shot wide. But it wasn't long before the 15 was in again as her shot was slightly weak but manages to just creep between Chloe and the post, and although just evades crossing the line before being grabbed by Chloe. However despite the linesman not being able to see and the referee being further back he awards the goal to make it 3-2.

It was a squeaky last 8 mins for Bassett as we began to tire. Some late challenges from the away side saw the referee begin to lose the control of the game however their was one last chance for both sides as Amesbury were awarded a corner which was cleared by Holly who found Daisy who was able to hold and turn and continue driving with Maya alongside however Daisy chooses to finish herself and smashes the ball past the keeper for her second and Bassett's fourth to see the game out. A final chance for the 15 goes wide as she again drives through our back line.

However despite a weak second half our first half performance was strong and it could have easily been more but a good performance to finish 2023 off!
