A late comeback to scare the hosts

After a midweek postponement, Bath City stepped up late to host us in our next league match and after a 13-0 drubbing on the first game of the season we were looking to out things right after such a poor performance.

Sadly after the first 5 mins it seemed as if Bassett were on the back foot again as Bath skipped through the back line and were fortunate not to go one nil up as the striker missed the target. Again Bath were on top and with the help of Chloe who made some great saves throughout the match.

It wasn't long before Bath went one up after sloppy marking allowed the striker to come in and finish into the corner for 1-0

After getting some more of the ball Bassett started to create some opportunities however after a long goal kick from the keepers hands the ball lands at the feet of the number who controls beautifully and rounds the defence to finish past Parkin to make it 2-0.

Fortunately for Bassett they were starting to grow in confidence and after Bennett picks up the ball and drives forward, her pass is found by Hughes who bares down on goal and slots it in to make it 2-1.

Halftime score 2-1

Almost straight after the restart Bassett found themselves 2 goals behind again after a lovey ball it put in across the box to find the number 9 at the back post who wasn't missing from 2 yards out. Disappointing for Bassett but a long way to go.

After some more promising chances from Warwick and Hughes, Bassett began to heap pressure on Bath who had suffered a set back and had to replace the keeper due to injury and with bare 8 the injured player went in goal. But it was Bath who again found their 4th after a Bassett attack failed to come to anything and the striker went up 1 on 1 to fire past Parkin to make it 4-1

But it was Bassett who were growing and they fought back to make it a tight ending to the game as Warwick flicks the ball around the defender into Hughes's path as she drives and slots in past the keeper. It was Bassett who score again to put the hosts on edge as Warwick runs at the defenders and her pass finds Hughes again who again runs through on the keeper and strikes the ball through her legs for it to go in to make it 4-3 for a late comeback.

Sadly though it wasn't meant to be as despite pushing on and not being awarded a penalty for a challenge on Warwick the hosts managed to go on and score two further goals one coming from a mazey run and a mistake from a free kick to see the match finish 6-3 to the hosts.

A much better performance from Bassett despite losing and some great shifts put in from the players. POTM Elise Dart
