Royal Wootton Bassett Town bounced back from Tuesday's heavy defeat as Sam Collier's side triumphed 2-1 away at Tuffley Rovers.

In a game that they dominated and performed very well, Bassett should have won by a much clearer margin. However, following the 7-1 reverse at the hands of Corsham Town, any victory would do.

Bassett led early on as Louis Spalding seized on a defensive error. Stealing possession, he played a neat one-two with Tommy Ouldridge before leaving Luke Merchant no chance in the Tuffley goal for his first of the season.

Chances continued to come the way of Collier's team, but the visitors lacked the ruthless edge that Corsham emphatically displayed to Bassett's detriment in their midweek encounter.

There was eventually some breathing space though. Ouldridge's outstanding defense-splitting pass set free Tom Moore. He saw his initial effort parried by Merchant but the forward had a second bite at the cherry and Moore fired a fierce effort into the top corner as time wound down.

There was still time for Tuffley to pull one back, Connor Walters halving their deficit to offer his side a glimmer of hope late on.

However the points would ultimately be Bassett's as Collier and his team quickly got back on the right track.
