Royal Wootton Bassett Town sit top of the Hellenic League Premier Division following a 1-0 win against Hereford Pegasus - Bassett's fourth win in a row.

Connor Waldon's 17th minute goal was all that Bassett needed as they retained their 100% record with a disciplined, dogged performance.

Taking control of the ball before swivelling and firing in on the turn, Waldon's finish for his third goal of the season was an assured one.

Bassett did ride their luck somewhat again - none more so than midway through the second half when Pegasus won a penalty. However, man of the match Harry Pickering saved well from Carlos Moreira's effort from the spot.

As well as having won four from four to begin their league campaign, Sam Collier's side have conceded just once, with the result against Pegasus representing Bassett's third consecutive clean sheet.

There is still a very, very long way to go with the season still in its embryonic stages. But Collier and his team can be hugely proud of the start they have made, their early results meaning that Bassett are in the extremely unfamiliar position of the competition having to play catch up.

The next few weeks - and the next two games away at Highworth Town and Corsham Town in particular - will provide a proper test of Bassett's mettle.

Can Bassett truly be contenders? Time will tell. However there are only positives to take from the opening weeks of the season.
