Melksham Maul Youths

Wootton Bassett Town under 18's were on the receiving end of a third consecutive five goal shipment, this time against league leaders Melksham Town, who extended their run of consecutive clean sheets to an astounding five games.

The visitors took the lead within the first ten minutes courtesy of a free header following a ball whipped in from the left.

The second followed shortly. The ball was crossed in from the left into the six-yard box and somehow the Melksham forward beat both 'keeper Rich Hanley and defender Tom Holmes to nod home easily.

However, Bassett shut up shop for the remainder of the opening period but failed to create anything of note themselves. The impressive Melksham back four neutralised the front pair of Phil Tearle and Tom Marchment, limiting them to long range half chances that failed to trouble the Melksham 'keeper.

The second period was no different from the first, with the majority of play taking place in and around the Bassett goal. Three more mistakes gifted the visitors three more goals as they emphatically killed the game off.

The third was a messy tap in before number four saw the ball squirm beneath the body of Hanley thanks to the slick surface and Melksham reacted first to the ball, easily tapping in. Number five came just over midway through the period, with the floodgates looking more than ready to open.

However, things tightened up in the final 20 minutes allowing the score to maintain some semblance of respectability as all sides who have come in the way of the Conigre based side have shipped goals.
