Record numbers backing Bassett!

Wednesday 27th March 2024

Last night represented Royal Wootton Bassist Town's final home Hellenic League Premier Division game of the regular season.

And, despite the torrid weather, it was great to see a bumper crowd of 238 enjoy an excellent game against title favourites Worcester City.

We hope the large contingent who traveled down from Worcester enjoyed their visit - and it is brilliant to see such great away support at step five!

We are also proud and delighted to see our average home attendance increase once more. For the third year in a row attendances at our home league games have averaged more than 100, with our mean attendance this season being 126.

Make no mistake - these are crowds the size of which we haven't seen on a regular basis for a long time.

That average figure also includes four games with crowds of over 200 - with that's at the FA Vase tie against Bridgwater United also exceeding that figure.

Alongside other teams in the Hellenic League, we have certainly benefited from the recent reorganisation at step five which has brought more local derbies and teams, like Worcester, with larger followings into the division.

But the growth in attendance must largely be attributed to the success Sam Collier and his team have enjoyed on the pitch.

Further credit must go to the efforts - led by Mari Green - to bring the club's youth and men's (as well as the women's) sections closer together. It is great to see the number of youth players (and coaches) who are now regularly in attendance - with those part of the 'Ultras' making noise.

Huge thanks go to all who have been in attendance at games this season.

Hopefully there will be at least one more home game to come in the playoffs. If there is, we look forward to seeing you there. If we qualify and have to settle for an away tie, we hope still to see many fans hit the road to back us.

Up the Bass!
